Hovsep Kousouyan is suing former talk show host Ricki Lake for burning down his Malibu home. Lake, who was renting the house for $20,000 a month, allegedly caused oil to spill which was then ignited by coals which had not yet cooled. Kousouyan claims that when the flames spread, Lake did not attempt to extinguish the fire.
Kousouyan also expressed that Lake claimed responsibility and liability when she called the fire department and told explained to them what had happened. Kousouyan is seeking an undisclosed amount in damages for the destroyed house. This number could well run into the millions.
Fire accidents are a leading cause of property damage as well as personal injury. It’s a miracle nobody was hurt in Lake’s fire, but this is not always the case. Fire accidents can cause severe and catastrophic injuries. Victims can sustain life altering burns, and in some cases, even burn to death. If you or a loved one are injured in a fire, don’t hesitate to contact a personal injury attorney who can help you receive the assistance you need.
